As the UK’s largest bag seal manufacturer and a key supplier to the global bakery sector, we are leading the way in sustainability. We are also working towards becoming a more eco-friendly business, with a number of initiatives now in place to lower our environmental impact.
We have invested heavily in examining the role we can play in the creation of a sustainable packaging, and how we can help our bakery customers create a 100% recyclable packaging solution that includes the coded seal. For more information, you can download a free copy of our white paper, It’s all about the seal: Fresher, clearer, easier, safer…and now greener at www.selectbagsealers.com/white-paper/
Our film suppliers are fully committed to the CEFLEX initiative, a European consortium which aims to enhance the performance of flexible packaging in the circular economy by advancing better system design solutions through collaboration between companies representing the entire value chain. The CEFLEX vision is that, by 2020, flexible packaging will be recognised for the significant value it adds to the circular economy and that, by 2025, there will be an established collection, sorting and reprocessing infrastructure/economy across Europe for flexible packaging.
As well as achieving ISO9001:2015 and BS OHSAS 18001:2007 accreditations, we have also obtained the ISO 14001:2015 environmental management accreditation. All of the waste we produce from our film and adhesive is recycled, and we have a recycling partner who has worked with us to develop the capabilities to process our adhesive waste.
Significant investments have been made to ensure the majority of our company cars, and those belonging to our partner company ProSpool, are low emission hybrid vehicles. In fact, six out of the eight company cars currently in use are hybrid vehicles and charging points have been installed at our Yeadon HQ to allow vehicles to be charged throughout the day.
Cycle to Work
We are also part of the Cycle to Work scheme, with around a third of our staff members taking advantage of the scheme since it was introduced by the government in 1999.
“Since we purchased our first Flexi-Sealer we have been immensely impressed with the vast product range that the machine can comfortably handle; coupled with its ease of use and user friendly controls, we have been able to improve our operational efficiencies and reduce our down times and product changeovers dramatically. We are now in the process of purchasing our third machine which proves our trust and faith in SBS as our preferred choice in bag sealers.”
