Support from a forward looking, experienced and dedicated team

Our goal is to help make our customers’ lives easier. To do this, we have built an experienced and skilled team focused on delivering quality products backed by technical know-how and comprehensive customer support.

With experienced technicians leading on equipment manufacture, service engineers covering all areas of the country, a dedicated customer support coordinator located at our Yorkshire head office and plans to continue growing the team as the business develops, we are well resourced to deliver on our goal.

Simon Browning, managing director

Simon brings more than 30 years’ technical and engineering experience to his role at Select Bag Sealers, including the management of a Yorkshire-based automation and control business and as technical director at tape products supplier, ProSpool. Simon worked closely alongside former Select Bag Sealers owner and founder Tom Foster from February 2016 to ensure a smooth transition to the company’s new ownership. He has now assumed responsibility for the successful running of the business, making sure it stays technologically ahead of the curve and that the team is resourced with the right people to make sure customer needs are consistently fulfilled and exceeded.

Richard Hobson, sales director

Richard has more than 30 years’ experience in food processing and packaging. He formed bag sealing tape and contract spool winding company ProSpool in 1986, a business he continues to run, and became a Select Bag Sealers director in 2016. He leads on sales within the business.

Sue Hobson, finance director

As finance director, her careful stewardship of the company’s financial affairs has been critical to its underlying strength. Sue has overseen steady year-on-year growth and has helped steer the company through successful acquisitions and strategic alliances

James Carson, business development manager

James’ engineering background and experience working with food machinery experts Dowsons have helped him quickly get to grips with the Select Bag Sealers business model. His role will include fostering and developing relationships with our customers, suppliers and partners, as well as strategic planning to enhance the operation of the business.

Julie Ettenfield, customer support coordinator

Julie’s role involves helping our customers make sure that everything is running smoothly on site, as well as managing site and scheduled maintenance visits for our team of engineers to customer sites across the country. Julie’s background spans financial services – she worked in international banking for NatWest for 20 years - followed by admin roles with Woolmark and local dental and physiotherapy practices. Incredibly organised and most definitely a ‘people person’, Julie is the first point of contact for many of our customers.

Maria Hellyer, production and procurement engineer

With experience in roles with Yorkshire Water and Cummins Turbo, as well as a first-class honours degree in Engineering from Leeds Metropolitan University, Maria is primarily responsible for optimising production at Select Bag Sealers. Her enthusiasm and experience in solving the challenges of managing a growing order book, whilst making sure the business continues to work on new developments, makes her an indispensable member of the SBS team.

Jonathan Porritt, senior customer support engineer

A machine tool fitter by trade, Jonathan is an experienced engineer with a background in heavy industry, warehousing and food processing. He has worked at Select for the last five years and plays an active role in supporting customers. The majority of his time is spent on site looking after equipment servicing and repairs, as well as equipment installations and customer training.

Ian Koleniak, electrical technician

Ian’s extensive electrical engineering experience began in his first role as a TV engineer. He soon moved into the bakery sector, working first at Warburtons and then at an independent firm building electrical control panels for bakeries. He moved from there to an in-house role at Select Bag Sealers in 2004, where he is now responsible for specifying, installing and commissioning the control systems for all new machine builds. Ian says he gets great satisfaction from seeing complex engineering projects through from start to finish, and seeing finished equipment working successfully on site.

Musto Mahmutovic, engineer

Musto’s priority is making sure every machine build is completed to the highest possible standards, and he takes pride in working to the exacting standards Select Bag Sealers customers have come to expect from the team. With a background in engineering, Musto has worked at SBS since 2004, and is involved at every stage of the build process of new machines. He says nothing makes him happier than seeing a job completed well, and receiving positive feedback from customers.

Mick Ward, senior mechanical engineer

Mick manages our in-house engineering team, and is responsible for building new machines to customer specifications. His extensive bakery sector experience means that he is also well equipped to help customers with technical questions, queries and support. Mick has worked at SBS since 1998, and beforehand as a packaging engineer at British Bakeries, were he worked on Select Bag Sealers machines. As with others in the team, Mick enjoys the hands on aspects of his role as engineer and seeing machinery working in the field exactly as it should.

Joshua Callaghan, apprentice

After studying mechanics at college, Joshua now has almost six years of experience in the packaging industry. His day-to-day role involves working as part of the machine fitting team to ensure every SBS product performs perfectly. This includes fitting parts for, building and testing our machines, and it is his attention to detail, as well as pride in a job well done, that makes him such a great fit for our team.

Dan Field, customer support engineer

Dan joined the team with a wealth of experience earned from time working within the baking industry not just in the UK but on the other side of the world in New Zealand.
At Select Bag Sealers he will be responsible for carrying out proactive preventative maintenance programmes on our bag sealing machines out in the field, as well as initial installations and training.

James Elliot, customer support engineer

Coming to Select Bag Sealers following 12 years as part of the Royal Navy, during which time he was responsible for maintaining and servicing a range of complex machinery, James’ experience will come in useful in his role supporting our customers and their bag sealing machines.
In his spare time, James can be found supporting his local football team, as well as playing a few matches himself.

Andy Tate, customer support engineer

Travelling to our customers’ sites across the UK and overseas, Andy is an integral part of helping Select Bag Sealers drive standards forwards, as well as achieve the customer satisfaction we are known for. With almost three decades of experience working in the baking industry, Andy’s technical know-how and knowledge of best-practise are valuable assets.

Mason Osborne, apprentice

Having completed his Level 2 in Mechanical Manufacturing at Bradford College, Mason joins the Select Bag Sealers team as he works towards achieving Level 3. His previous experience in the industry has given him a good base upon which to build during his new role as an apprentice in our machine fitting team.
