With experienced technicians leading on equipment manufacture, service engineers covering all areas of the country, a dedicated customer support coordinator located at our Yorkshire head office and plans to continue growing the team as the business develops, we are well resourced to deliver on our goal.
Richard Hobson, Managing Director
With more than 30 years’ experience in food processing and packaging, Richard became Select Bag Sealers’ Sales Director in 2016 before taking over the role of Managing Director in 2019, a position he also holds at our sister company ProSpool, which he founded in 1994. His vision for the business has laid the foundations for its continued growth and expansion into international markets.
Sue Hobson, Finance Director
As finance director, her careful stewardship of the company’s financial affairs has been critical to its underlying strength. Sue has overseen steady year-on-year growth and has helped steer the company through successful acquisitions and strategic alliances
John Haig, Operations Director
John’s technical expertise has helped our sister company ProSpool establish its reputation for developing innovative production management processes for over 20 years. He now also plays a key role in the overall development of Select Bag Sealers as the business targets expansion both in the UK and across the globe.
Simon Browning, Non-Executive Director & Product Development Specialist
With over 30 years’ of engineering and business experience across a variety of sectors, Simon has stepped back from his former role as MD to enjoy more time with his family as well as sailing and paragliding. He continues to be an active Board Member as well as steering and supervising the R&D programme. With a background in Control Systems, he is keen that new developments at SBS demonstrate excellent application of the latest software and hardware, carefully integrated with novel mechanical design. Simon keeps the team focused on key factors such as customer value, reliability and ease of use. As well as an engineering degree, Simon has an MBA and is a member of the IET.
James Carson, Business Development Manager
James’ engineering background and experience working with food machinery experts Dowsons have helped him quickly get to grips with the Select Bag Sealers business model. His role will include fostering and developing relationships with our customers, suppliers and partners, as well as strategic planning to enhance the operation of the business.
Julie Ettenfield, Customer Support Coordinator
Julie’s role involves helping our customers make sure that everything is running smoothly on site, as well as managing site and scheduled maintenance visits for our team of engineers to customer sites across the country. Julie’s background spans financial services – she worked in international banking for NatWest for 20 years - followed by admin roles with Woolmark and local dental and physiotherapy practices. Incredibly organised and most definitely a ‘people person’, Julie is the first point of contact for many of our customers.
Ruth Burke, Compliance & Systems Manager
Joining Select Bag Sealers at the end of October 2018, Ruth has made this role her own. Her role includes finding ways to reduce our environmental impact as well as ensuring compliance with all management system standards. She is also responsible for managing and maintaining systems and procedures so that the quality of our products and services continually improves.
Maria Hellyer, Production and Procurement Engineer
With experience in roles with Yorkshire Water and Cummins Turbo, as well as a first-class honours degree in Engineering from Leeds Metropolitan University, Maria is primarily responsible for optimising production at Select Bag Sealers. Her enthusiasm and experience in solving the challenges of managing a growing order book, whilst making sure the business continues to work on new developments, makes her an indispensable member of the SBS team.
Jack Bradford, Production and Procurement Engineer
Joining Select Bag Sealers at the start of the year, Jack is responsible for ensuring that production at the business is planned to optimise lead times, inventory levels and use of human resources. His background in Mechanical Engineering, which he studied at Northumbria University makes him a fantastic asset to our team.
Ian Koleniak, Electrical Technician
Ian’s extensive electrical engineering experience began in his first role as a TV engineer. He soon moved into the bakery sector, working first at Warburtons and then at an independent firm building electrical control panels for bakeries. He moved from there to an in-house role at Select Bag Sealers in 2004, where he is now responsible for specifying, installing and commissioning the control systems for all new machine builds. Ian says he gets great satisfaction from seeing complex engineering projects through from start to finish, and seeing finished equipment working successfully on site.
Jonathan Hinchliff, Engineering Supervisor
Bringing with him over 10 years of experience in engineering roles, Jonathan’s responsibilities at Select Bag Sealers range from providing mechanical engineering leadership in the workshop to liaising with electrical team and applying high standards of quality to ensure the manufacture of our sealing machines is efficient.
Musto Mahmutovic, Engineer
Musto’s priority is making sure every machine build is completed to the highest possible standards, and he takes pride in working to the exacting standards Select Bag Sealers customers have come to expect from the team. With a background in engineering, Musto has worked at SBS since 2004, and is involved at every stage of the build process of new machines. He says nothing makes him happier than seeing a job completed well, and receiving positive feedback from customers.
Jonathan Porritt, Senior Customer Support Engineer
A machine tool fitter by trade, Jonathan is an experienced engineer with a background in heavy industry, warehousing and food processing. He has worked at Select for the last five years and plays an active role in supporting customers. The majority of his time is spent on site looking after equipment servicing and repairs, as well as equipment installations and customer training.
James Elliot, Customer Support Engineer
Coming to Select Bag Sealers following 12 years as part of the Royal Navy, during which time he was responsible for maintaining and servicing a range of complex machinery, James’ experience will come in useful in his role supporting our customers and their bag sealing machines.
In his spare time, James can be found supporting his local football team, as well as playing a few matches himself.
Andy Tate, Customer Support Engineer
Travelling to our customers’ sites across the UK and overseas, Andy is an integral part of helping Select Bag Sealers drive standards forwards, as well as achieve the customer satisfaction we are known for. With almost three decades of experience working in the baking industry, Andy’s technical know-how and knowledge of best-practise are valuable assets.
Aiden Brook, Customer Support Engineer
Having completed an HND in Mechanical Engineering with Bradford College, Aiden is a valuable member of the Select Bag Sealers customer support team, providing support to our customers and their bag sealing machines.
Joshua Callaghan, Apprentice
After studying mechanics at college, Joshua now has almost six years of experience in the packaging industry. His day-to-day role involves working as part of the machine fitting team to ensure every SBS product performs perfectly. This includes fitting parts for, building and testing our machines, and it is his attention to detail, as well as pride in a job well done, that makes him such a great fit for our team.
Mason Osborne, Apprentice
Having completed his Level 2 in Mechanical Manufacturing at Bradford College, Mason joins the Select Bag Sealers team as he works towards achieving Level 3. His previous experience in the industry has given him a good base upon which to build during his new role as an apprentice in our machine fitting team.
