We’re proud to reveal that we closed 2018 with a bang by smashing our fundraising target and raising over £10,000 for our Charity of the Year!
At the start of last year, the team at Select Bag Sealers were challenged to raise £10,000 in 12 months for Sue Ryder Wheatfields Hospice. We’re thrilled to be able to announce that we have surpassed ourselves by reaching the amazing final total of £11,313.90.
Charity events our staff took part in throughout 2018 included Sam Campbell, Helen Lee and Oktawia Lis walking 10 miles as part of the 25th annual Nidderdale charity walk, while SBS finance director Sue Hobson and customer support coordinator Julie Ettenfield braved the chilly waters of Lake Windermere in June to take part in the Great North Swim.
One of the largest challenges undertaken by 32 members of staff from Select Bag Sealers and ProSpool in October saw them cycle 714.7 miles (1149km) over the space of a week without leaving our Yeadon-based office, thanks to the loan of an exercise bike from Rowhire. To make sure the hospice gets every donation it deserves, Select Bag Sealers’ directors also pledged to match every pound raised throughout the year.
Its costs Wheatfield’s Hospice £4m a year to keep their services running, of which less than half (£1.8m) is funded by the Government, meaning they wouldn’t be able to provide the standard of care they do without donations of £2.2m to cover the remaining funds.
“We are very pleased with the way our two SBS machines have worked so far. They haven’t missed a beat and going forward we will be looking to set up yearly service visits from SBS to ensure both machines continue to deliver the best possible performance.”
